SUMMARY:Landslide: slips in time\, place and identity
DESCRIPTION:Opening reception: September 11 from 1pm -5pm \nAngels Gate Cultural Center is pleased to present Landslide: slips in time\, place and identity; a grouping of solo and two-person exhibitions exploring how place can function as a porthole to the past and imagined future. The title references the 2011 landslide near White Point Nature preserve\, where site-specific works will be installed the weekend of the exhibition’s opening. Both a historic phenomenon and constant possibility in coastal San Pedro and Palos Verdes\, Landslide also references the 1975 Fleetwood Mac song\, in which Stevie Nicks sings “Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? / Can I handle the seasons of my life?” Together these references speak to the tension between the individual/collective and interior/exterior landscapes the artists in this exhibition – Michael Davis\, Alexandra Pacheco Garcia\, Vanessa Madrid and Suzanne Wright – address in their distinct styles

DESCRIPTION:The San Pedro Art Association invites everyone to attend the closing reception for the Harbor Wide Student Art Competition.  \nThis years show has been by far our best yet. We are very proud of all the students that took part in the show. So proud that we are holding a closing reception to honor all the students on last time. \nWe encourage all students to attend the reception. All the students that were unable to attend the opening reception will receive prizes\, art supplies and more. We would encourage all of the students and families to attend as there is an opportunity to win cash prizes in our People Choice award and honorable mention. \nStudents will be able to take their art work home with them at the close of the reception. Any unclaimed art will be returned to the school or youth organization it was submitted from. \nLunch will be served to all that attend.

DESCRIPTION:Celtic Music…From the Tradition to the Movies and Beyond “World’s Most Recorded Piper” Eric Rigler (soloist on Braveheart\, Titanic\, The Simpsons\, etc.) and multi-talented string player Dirk Freymuth team-up to create a musical panorama of Celtic spirit and energy. Drawing from haunting Irish melodies\, barn-burning jigs & reels\, and themes from Eric’s film & television work\, the duo produce a hearing-is-believing sonic experience. \nFeaturing Eric on Irish uilleann pipes and whistles and Dirk on acoustic guitars\, the two formed their duo in 2014 with the goal of performing soundtrack music\, Celtic traditional music\, and original compositions using looping pedals\, effects processors\, and other music technology. Together they create everything from lush cinematic soundscapes to driving percussive grooves.
