DESCRIPTION:On Sunday June 25th from 11AM – 4PM\, MMCC will be celebrating 25 years of marine mammal rehabilitation by holding our annual Seal Day Festival. \nThis is MMCC’s annual educational open house where we welcome supporters\, donors\, and first time visitors to get acquainted with us and the work we do – and having fun at the same time! \nHighlights this year include guest speakers\, movie screenings\, crafts & games\, live music\, educational booths\, great food\, and merchandise from vendors and nonprofit organizations. \nLast year’s festival hosted over 1\,400 visitors\, who participated in activities such as “gruel making\,” opportunity drawings\, and exploring the facility while visiting our patients. \nAs this is a free event\, everyone is encouraged to bring friends and family. If you don’t want to pack a picnic lunch\, food trucks and booths will be on site. \nParking will be available in all areas surrounding MMCC. Entrance will be from 32nd Street off Gaffey in San Pedro. Parking attendants will guide visitors in.

SUMMARY:Meet the Grunion
DESCRIPTION:From March through July\, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium presents special evening programs to introduce you to the unique and elusive grunion. \nAt times the beach may look as if it is covered in a blanket of silver as the wriggling fish arrive to mate.  The females burrow into the sand to lay eggs while the males wrap around them in order to fertilize the eggs.  Then both males and females catch the next wave back out to sea.  The fertilized eggs incubate for about nine days in the sand before the tumbling action of the waves from the next series of high tides cause them to hatch as they are carried back out to sea.  \nThe Aquarium opens at 8 p.m. Guests must arrive before 9pm to participate in the full program in the auditorium\, followed by a guided observation. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight to spot grunion at the beach. Program admission is $5 for adults and $1 children/seniors/students with I.D. Buy tickets at the door or pre-purchase your tickets at Meet the Grunion to guarantee admission. Processing fees apply. \n#cmagrunion
