SUMMARY:Coastal/Border
DESCRIPTION:Coastal/Border is an exhibition of original site-responsive performance and installation work with corresponding public programming curated by Raquel Gutiérrez and Martabel Wasserman. Taking as its starting point the landscape and history of the area surrounding Angels Gate Cultural Center\, six Southern California based artists will interrogate how the coast is fortified as border\, and how in turn that impacts the Latino/Latina communities of Los Angeles and beyond. In asking artists to develop a performance or public programming component of their work\, the curators seek to emphasize the ways in which historical connections between Los Angeles and Latin America are embodied in the present. \nCoastal/Border will be open to the public September 16th and run through December 17th 2017 at Angels Gate Cultural Center.

SUMMARY:4th Annual Horton's Hayride
DESCRIPTION:The 4th Annual Horton’s Hayride returns to Berth 46 at The Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro\, CA on Saturday\, September 16. \nJoin your host\, Reverend Horton Heat\, for an action packed day of live music\, a classic car & hot rod contest\, the Southland’s best food trucks\, full bars and shop at some of the South Bay’s best retail vendors. \nTickets go on sale Friday\, May 19 @ 10:00AM Pacific Standard Time through TicketWeb.com or by calling 1-866-468-3399. \nLoaded .38s\, space heaters\, and big skies. Welcome to the lethal\, littered landscape of Jim Heath’s imagination. True to his high evangelical calling\, Jim is a Revelator\, both revealing & reinterpreting the country-blues-rock roots of American music. He’s a time-travelling space-cowboy on an endless interstellar musical tour\, and we are all the richer and “psychobillier” for getting to tag along. \nSeeing REVEREND HORTON HEAT live is a transformative experience. Flames come off the guitars. Heat singes your skin. There’s nothing like the primal tribal rock ‘n roll transfiguration of a Reverend Horton Heat show. Jim becomes a slicked-back 1950?s rock ‘n roll shaman channeling Screamin’ Jay Hawkins through Buddy Holly\, while Jimbo incinerates the Stand-Up Bass. And then there are the “Heatettes”. Those foxy rockabilly chicks dressed in poodle-skirts and cowboy boots slamming the night away. It’s like being magically transported into a Teen Exploitation picture from the 1950s that’s currently taking place in the future. \nListening to the REVEREND HORTON HEAT is tantamount to injecting pure musical nitrous into the hot-rod engine of your heart. The Reverend’s commandants are simple. Rock hard\, drive fast\, and live true. And no band on this\, or any other\, planet rocks harder\, drives faster\, or lives truer than the Reverend Horton Heat. These itinerant preachers actually practice what they preach. They live their lives by the Gospel of Rock ‘n Roll.
