DESCRIPTION:The 16th Annual Many Winters Gathering of Elders-\nHealing Through Traditional Teachings\nOctober 6th-9th\, 11am – 6pm\, Pacific Time \nSan Pedro\, CA – The Many Winters Gathering of Elders (MWGOE) Organizing Committee is excited to announce its 16th MWGOE\, scheduled for Thursday\, October 6 through Sunday\, October 9\, from 11 am to 6 pm at Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) in San Pedro\, CA on Gabrielino-Tongva territory. The MWGOE is a four-day gathering where Native/Indigenous Elders and knowledge-keepers from across the country gather to share teachings through oral tradition with the community. The Gathering also hosts various Native ceremonies that take place throughout the four days. The event is free\, family-friendly\, open to the public\, and held in partnership with AGCC. \nElders from local tribes including Gabrielino-Tongva\, Acjachemen\, Fernandeño Tataviam\, Chumash\, and other California tribes have attended in the past and will join in October. Tribal elders from other regions (Arizona\, Nevada\, New Mexico\, Montana\, South Dakota and others) are expected\, as well. The Gathering takes place under an arbor which serves as the traditional place of teaching and learning – where Elders pass on knowledge to the younger generation\, which is part of intergenerational healing from historical trauma. \nThe first MWGOE was held on October 12\, 1992\, in response to the false narrative represented by the quincentennial celebrations of Christopher Columbus’ “discovery of America.” Today\, the Gathering continues to be an important occasion for the Native/Indigenous community\, to reconnect to and practice ceremony\, and to celebrate 530 years of spiritual survival. It also allows access for the general public to learn and acknowledge the traditional knowledge and values that have supported and sustained Native lifeways. \nDuring the 16th Many Winters Gathering of Elders\, no alcohol\, drugs\, cameras\, pictures\, video or other recording equipment are allowed; the MWGOE Organizing Committee requests that attendees respect and observe ceremonial protocol. We do know that something happened; too many people witnessed the event to dispute that fact\, but what really happened? \nThe newspaper reports from Wednesday morning of the 25\, varied wildly. The Los Angeles Examiner said that civilian witness had put the number of planes at fifty\, and that three of them had been shot down over the ocean\, although there was no immediate confirmation of this from Army or Navy sources.

DESCRIPTION:The Annual San Pedro 4th of July Community Observance will be held on Tuesday\, July 4\, 2023 at Angels Gate Park\, home of the Korean Friendship Bell. The Korean Bell\, one of San Pedro’s most enduring landmarks\, plays a key role in the ceremonial observance.  The ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM.  CA State Senator Steven Bradford\, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and Councilmember Tim McOsker will be providing remarks. \nTo conclude the ceremonial portion of the day\, the assembled guest speakers and dignitaries will lead the audience in reciting the names of the 13 original American states. As they read the names\, the representatives of the San Pedro and Korean Communities will strike a battering ram into the massive bell\, ringing once for each state. The Korean Bell is rung officially on four other occasions each year – Korean Independence Day (August 15th) Constitution Day (September 21st)\, New Year’s Eve and Korean American Day (January 13th).

DESCRIPTION:Conquer The Bridge began as an idea over 15 years ago and was created for those who sought a challenge unlike any other in Southern California racing circles. Thousands of runners and walkers join us annually on Labor Day Monday in the picturesque and truly unique city of San Pedro to conquer the 5.3 mile race course over the historical Vincent Thomas Bridge. \nSince the very beginning our wonderful partners at the LAPD Harbor Division\, and their Booster Club for Kids Program\, have worked with us to make our race possible. The program consists of dozens of young kids whose presence on race day is truly amazing. We are also joined by two large groups of the YMCA (San Pedro & Torrance) Youth in Government Programs and staff who assist us with important tasks such packet pickups and Finisher’s Medals distributions. \nNOTES:  Online Registration closes August 31 for individuals and August 28 for teams \nTeam discounts are available for groups of 25 or more. Please contact us at info@conquerthebridge.com \nEntry fee includes a finishers medal for all participants and a place medal for the top three finishers in each division. Additionally\, Championship trophies and flags for the male and female champions will be awarded. \nAll merchandise including official race tee shirt will be available for sale during our three day packet pickup at Road Runner Sports in Torrance and at the race while supplies last \nThere are NO refunds for this event \nIMPORTANT NOTE:  Per order of Cal Trans no backpacks\, bicycles\, strollers\, pets\, skateboards etc. are allowed on the bridge and we are unable to hold items for you at the stage. DESCRIPTION:Angels Gate Park Battery Leary\n3601 S. Gaffey\, Bld. # A\, San Pedro\, CA 90731 \nProduced and directed by storyteller Melanie Jones\, Scary Stories has been an annual event at AGCC since 2002. In 20 years\, we have performed almost 200 individual stories. Scary Stories is for all ages. The program starts at 6:30 pm and is over around 8 pm\, one night only – the Saturday before Halloween.\n$5 admission and BYO chairs.
