Milner\nCuration\nPhoebe Barnum and Susan Davis\nWorks by\nW. S. Milner \nSpecies of Magic: From the Studio of W.S. Milner\, is a solo exhibition of works by the late San Pedro artist also known as Wendy Calloway (1948 – 2025). Curated by Phoebe Barnum and Susan Davis\, this exhibition features a selection of works from the collections of many who knew and loved the late AGCC Studio Artist. Wendy Calloway’s poetic practice was akin to magic – a transformative force for constructing reality and unveiling hidden truths. Species of Magic: From the Studio of W.S. Milner opens to the general public with a free public reception at AGCC on Saturday\, February 14th from 2pm – 4pm.

DESCRIPTION:Artists from Los Angeles and New Orleans examine the mutability and movement of identity\, ideology\, information\, and spirituality.\nCuration\nKatherine Shanks\nWorks by\nHannah Chalew\, Ben Cuevas\, Leslie Foster\, Felicita Felli Maynard\, Renee Royale\, Nancy Voegeli-Curran\, Demi Hanad Ward\, Sterling Wells \nLos Angeles and New Orleans are two metropolitan areas deeply influenced by their relationships with water\, albeit in very different ways: Los Angeles navigates its scarcity while New Orleans grapples with its abundance.  Both also have long and complicated histories with oil—its extraction\, the environmental and public health effects of that process\, and impact on the economy and transportation systems in each region. Their inhabitants experience fluidity in more personal ways. We are constantly using liquid metaphors to express the mutability and movement of identity\, ideology\, information\, and spirituality.

In this workshop\, families will combine meaningful symbols and colors to create an abstract family portrait that tells a visual tale of their memories\, values \, and connections . Through painting\, personal symbols \, and shared creative expression \, families will craft a colorful canvas that honors their bonds and celebrates their individuality. \nMeet your teacher in Building A’s Gallery and we will walk over to our classroom in Building G. \nAll materials are provided.
