DESCRIPTION:Teen Mural Unveiling: Native Blooms! \nCome celebrate the unveiling of our Teen Mural Club’s new mural\, Native Blooms! Meet us on the Lawn between Building A and B! \nAngels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC)\, in partnership with Mer Young and local youth\, is pleased to announce the public unveiling of a new mural\, Native Blooms on Saturday\, May 3rd\, from 12-1 pm at Angels Gate Cultural Center. The completion of this large-scale artwork marks the conclusion of the Spring 2025 AGCC Teen Mural Club (TMC)\, a ten-week professional development workshop for San Pedro students ages 13-20 years old. \nNative Blooms is the culmination of the Center’s third Teen Mural Club cohort\, which included ten weeks of professional training\, planning\, and painting by San Pedro based students under the mentorship of Indigenous multidisciplinary artist\, Mer Young (Chichimeca & Apache). The participants represented students from San Pedro High School’s Olguin and Flagship Campuses\, Port of Los Angeles High School\, Harbor College\, and homeschooling.  \nThe final piece is an impactful vision of California Native plants thriving at Angels Gate Cultural Center\, in San Pedro\, and across our greater ecosystem. Under the mentorship of Mer Young\, TMC students carefully observed and researched the native plants in their environment and selected one to adapt into the mural. The result\, Native Blooms\, is a colorful collage focusing on native species our young artists selected to bloom on our campus in perpetuity.

DESCRIPTION:It’s Family Art Workshop with Angels Gate Cultural Center! Angels Gate offers monthly free art workshops. All are welcome. Art activities for kids and adults\, ages 1 to 101! Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Pets are not allowed inside our galleries or classrooms. \nJoin us for our first public program of 2025 – \nJanuary ‘s Family Art Workshop with Artist-Teacher Clarisse Abelarde ! \nFamily Tapestry: Painting Our Story Through Colors & Symbols \nCelebrate your family’s unique story with a vibrant\, collaborative masterpiece! In this workshop\, families will combine meaningful symbols and colors to create an abstract family portrait that tells a visual tale of their memories\, values \, and connections . Through painting\, personal symbols \, and shared creative expression \, families will craft a colorful canvas that honors their bonds and celebrates their individuality. \nMeet your teacher in Building A’s Gallery and we will walk over to our classroom in Building G. \nAll materials are provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. DESCRIPTION:Mikaela Kai Flamenco\nSPAIN Sueño de Libertad\nMikaela Kai Flamenco’s 16th Recital \nDon’t miss the outstanding performance of native Barcelona flamenco artists\, Paco Arroyo and Yolanda Arroyo. Paco’s virtuoso playing guitar and Yolanda’s heart-moving dancing\, singing and transcendental technique in castanets will surely fascinate all audiences with a standing ovation. Three talented local flamenco dancers and MKF’s dancers and musicians will also be featured in the show. \nThis year’s theme is “Spain.” Flamenco is a folk art form that originated in the Andalusia region of southern Spain\, and the Romani\, a migratory people\, played a major role in its history and development. As an art form created by wandering peoples through a fusion of various music and rhythms\, it resonates with a diverse range of people\, bringing familiarity\, nostalgia and melancholy; in 2010\, it was included in UNESCO’s list of Spain’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. MKF is honored to be able to present this wonderful culture on stage through the art of flamenco\, an art they feel passionately about. Enjoy a wide range of flamenco performances\, from brilliant dances with castanets\, fans and mantons\, which are typical flamenco accessories\, to cante and guitar performances!
