DESCRIPTION:43rd Annual 4th of July Community Observance at the Korean Bell \nThe Annual San Pedro 4th of July Community Observance will be held Thursday\, July 4\, 2019 at Angels Gate Park\, home of the Korean Friendship Bell. The Korean Bell\, one of San Pedro’s most enduring landmarks\, plays a key role in the ceremonial observance.  The ceremony will begin at 10:30 AM with a processional to the bell led by percussion drummers. The ceremony includes the posting of the colors and remarks by elected officials and members of the Korean community.    \nTo conclude the ceremonial portion of the day\, the assembled guest speakers and dignitaries will lead the audience in reciting the names of the 13 original American states. As they read the names\, the representatives of the San Pedro and Korean Communities will strike a battering ram into the massive bell\, ringing once for each state. The Korean Bell is rung officially on four other occasions each year – Korean Independence Day (August 15th) Constitution Day (September 21st)\, New Year’s Eve and Korean American Day (January 13th). \nAngels Gate Park is located at 3601 South Gaffey Street in San Pedro. The free event\, conducted every year since the Korean Bell’s installation in 1976 is sponsored by the Office of Councilman Joe Buscaino; the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks; the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce; and the Korean Friendship Bell Preservation Committee (KFBPC). \nFor further information on this event\, please contact the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce\, at (310) 832-7272 or visit the Chamber’s website at San Pedro Chamber of Commerce.

DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: \nVenice Institute of Contemporary Art \nAs a continuation of our study of the effect of innumerable geographical\, political\, idealogical and physical borders on various peoples\, we present Edge to Edge 2\, a survey of art happening now in Mexico and Southern California. Curated by Juri Koll of ViCA and Pablo Llana from Mexico\, all of the works from Mexico are exhibiting for the first time here\, and most\, if not all\, of the artists from each respective geographic region have not shown together before. \nIn order to effect a true conversation\, works have been chosen without regard to theme or representation of borders per se. Some may comment on it peripherally\, perhaps\, but that is not the theme –  in an of itself – of this exhibition. Open conversation requires respect\, honesty\, and due consideration in order to achieve benefit. That’s partly what this exhibition is about. \nArtists in this show include César Bernal.
