SUMMARY:LA County COVID 19 Telebriefings-Overnight/Day Camps
DESCRIPTION:From the office of LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn: https://lacounty.gov/government/supervisors/janice-hahn/ \n“The state of California has one of the lowest COVID-19 transmission metrics in the country (according to the CDC). This is not an accident\, but rather the result of the many hours invested by countless community leaders in educating people about preventing transmission and working to maximize vaccine access\, as well as the efforts of every single person who continues to make prevention a priority and has gotten a vaccine or has shared their vaccination story to help someone else get vaccinated. As California reopens and physical distancing requirements and capacity limits are lifted on June 15\, it is critical that we get as many Angelenos vaccinated as possible to ensure safety for all. Public Health will conduct a telebriefing to update you on the latest COVID-19 response and discuss the sector-specific plans for reopening on June 15; we will also answer your questions and listen to your feedback.” \nSchools K-12\nWednesday\, June 9th | 2:00-3:00pm\nCall In: 877-336-4440 | Access Code: 799759 \nIndoor Shopping Malls and Retail Centers\nThursday\, June 10 | 1:00-2:00pm\nCall In: 877-336-4440 | Access Code: 799759 \nOvernight Camps and Day Camps\nThursday\, June 10 | 3:00-4:00pm\nCall In: 877-336-4440 | Access Code: 2862220 \nIndoor/Outdoor Live Events and Performances\nFriday\, June 11 | 3:00-4:00pm\nCall In: 877-336-4440 | Access Code: 2207950 \nCardrooms\, Family Entertainment Centers and Movie Theatres\nFriday\, June 11 | 4:00-5:00pm\nCall In: 877-336-4440 | Access Code: 3450862

SUMMARY:Anne Olsen Daub-Art Reception
DESCRIPTION:New Works by Anne Olsen Daub – Recent Work\nMy modus operandi changes and is often based on random events and continuous external agitation. Sometimes I start a painting or sculpture by jumping in spontaneously\, arranging shape\, color\, and form until it intuitively spurs a direction or inspiration. Other times\, inspiration comes more directly in the way of metaphors from film\, books\, iconic images\, life etc…that typically lead to a deeper meaning and understanding. My recent work in cardboard was inspired by The Seven Deadly Sins and evolved from there into the Land of Oz. I wanted to create big bold and colorful pieces.\nMask wearing is appreciated in the gallery\, refreshments will be served outdoors. \nJune 12 – July 17. \nMICHAEL STEARNS STUDIO\n401 S. SUMMARY:Authors Night with Dr. Michael Datcher & Noel Alumit
DESCRIPTION:Grand Vision is honored to host authors\, Noel Alumit and Dr. Michael Datcher\, recipients of the City of Los Angeles 2021 Individual Artist Fellowship grant. Both authors will read from their new works. Q & A and conversation will follow the readings. \n~~~~\nNoel Alumit is the author of Letters to Montgomery Clift and Talking to the Moon\, an LA Times Bestseller. His short stories have appeared in McSweeney’s\, USA Today and Best Gay American Short Stories. Noel will read from his new novel\, The Valet. \nThe Valet\nIn 1929\, the filmmaker F.W. Murnau died in a car crash along the California coast with his Filipino valet at the wheel. While the valet survived the accident\, history has forgotten him. In The Valet\, the author brings him keenly to life through the fictionalized Eli Visaya\, a young\, dashing Filipino man. Eli steps in as Murnau’s assistant\, and enters the glittering and unpredictable behind-the-scenes world of early Hollywood. \nDr. Michael Datcher\nDr. Michael Datcher is the author of the novel AMERICUS\, the critically-acclaimed New York Times bestseller RAISING FENCES\, and the Pulitzer Prize nominated ANIMATING BLACK AND BROWN LIBERATION: A Theory of American Literatures. Among many projects\, he is co-host of the program BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE on 90.7 FM KPFK. Dr. Datcher will read from his new novel\, CULT \nCULT\nJameela Easter wants to start a cult. As a charismatic and brilliant Black theology graduate student who’s researching People’s Temple cult leader Jim Jones\, Jameela wonders why so few Black women have been cult leaders—and wonders what it would feel like to have that kind of power. She tells herself that cult of personality-power can be used for good. Jameela decides to leave school to start a “positive womanist cult” disguised as a womanist church\, where the Black Divine Feminine will be worshipped.\n~~~~\nTickets \nThe LA Department of Cultural Affairs’ COLA Individual Artist Fellowship grant allows accomplished artists to create new work with increased freedom to innovate and experiment.
