She has been honored for her community service by numerous organization including the California Chicano News Media Association\, Hispanic Americans for Fairness in Media\, and as Woman of the Year to benefit the California Science Center. She is on the board of Southern California’s Alzheimer’s Association and has also served as a trustee of Mount St. Mary’s College. She received her Master’s Degree in journalism from American University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Latin American Studies from Yale University
