Olguin Auditorium.\nGuest Speaker: Stephen Weisberg\, Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP) \nAdvances in beach water quality monitoring \nBeach water quality monitoring has undergone a huge transformation in the last two decades as we have started to transition from traditional culture-based methods to genomic-based methods for quantifying bacteria. These new methods allow us to provide answers more quickly\, leading to a better warning system for the public. Genetic information captured by these new molecular methods also allows us to better define what type of animal served as the fecal source when contamination occurs.

Admiral Bynum is a combat veteran having flown more than 90 combat missions\, logging over 4\,200 hours in tactical aircraft. \nGeneral event parking will be at Rolling Hills Covenant Church located at 2222 Palos Verdes Drive North\, Rolling Hills Estates. No reservations are needed. \nThe Los Angeles Maritime Museum is located at 600 Sampson Way\, Berth 84\, in San Pedro. Banning’s Landing Community Center is located at 100 E. Water St. in Wilmington. Boats at both locations are wheelchair accessible and have restrooms on board. \nResident and visitors are encouraged to explore the LA Waterfront’s parks\, public art and other cultural and historical attractions. These include the Cruise Ship Promenade\, the Gateway Plaza Fanfare Fountains\, the Battleship IOWA\, the Los Angeles Maritime Museum\, the S.S. Lane Victory and the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. \nThe LA Waterfront also offers multiple dining and shopping options at Ports O’ Call Village\, historic downtown San Pedro and CRATED at the Port of Los Angeles.
