SUMMARY:Portals
DESCRIPTION:Live Artist & Curator Talk\nFebruary 17th\, 6:30pm\, PST Online\nSign up on eventbrite \nPORTALS\nJanuary 20th – March 26th\, 2022 \nThe exhibition is currently open to walk-in visitors at reduced capacity during gallery hours. Mask and proof of covid-19 vaccination or negative test are required to enter. No appointments necessary. More information about our policies are available at Plan your visit. \nPORTALS reflects on the transformative nature of passageways – contemplating ideas of boundaries\, entrance and egress\, progress\, and travel into the unknown. Doorways\, both metaphorical and physical\, have reappeared in our social consciousness consistently as significant elements in popular cultural narratives and mythology. These portals facilitate growth through the change they welcome into our worlds. Working in tapestry\, drawing\, neon sculpture\, resin and site-specific installation among other mixed media\, the artists explore transformation\, with the Port of Los Angeles as a relevant foil. PORTALS invites an experiential look at the work of nine contemporary artists whose works speak to the nature of these life-altering gateways. \nPORTALS is curated by Stephanie Sherwood and includes works by Erin Harmon\, Erika Lizée\, Elana Mann\, Yevgeniya Mikhailik\, Alicia Piller\, Adam Rabinowitz\, Esther Ruiz\, Howard Schwartzberg\, and Svetlana Shigroff. \nWork by Adam Rabinowitz will be on view at Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles in February\, opening date to be announced. \nGallery Hours starting January 20th:\nThursdays – Saturdays\, 10am – 4:00pm\nPlan your visit.

SUMMARY:Albert Cummings
DESCRIPTION:With mesmerizing guitar wizardry and strong vocals to match\, Cummings takes you on a rowdy rock-blues ride. He has worked with Stevie Ray Vaughan’s band Double Trouble members Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon and drawn comparisons to legends Albert King\, Freddie King\, and even Vaughan\, himself. \nBillboard Magazine called Cummings’ Working Man record “one of the top blues albums of 2006” and as Guitar Edge reports on the album\, Feels So Good – “Cummings effortlessly shifts from chimney subdued stylings to raucous roadhouse to soaring lead lines.” \nHe has graced the stage with such esteemed luminaries as Buddy Guy\, Johnny Winter\, Susan Tedeschi\, Sheryl Crow\, and B.B. King\, who called Cummings “a great guitarist.” \nOpener: Rebecca Lynn \nCOVID-19 SAFETY AT THE GRAND ANNEX\nWe follow all LA City Covid-19 safety protocols. Until further notice\, vaccination records OR negative tests (within 48 hours for PCR\, within 24 hours for antigen) AND face masks are required for ages 2 and up.

Kaye will be joined at the Annex by Boogie-woogie piano legend\, Carl Sonny Leyland\, Jon Atkinson and Tim McNalley. \nAny sentence\, any phrase\, any word in the lyrics she sings and find some emotional energy to be transformed into a growl\, a coo\, a shout\, a quiver. – Clinton Davis\, The San Diego Troubadour \nCOVID-19 SAFETY AT THE GRAND ANNEX\nWe follow all LA City Covid-19 safety protocols. Until further notice\, vaccination records OR negative tests (within 48 hours for PCR\, within 24 hours for antigen) AND face masks are required for ages 2 and up.

DESCRIPTION:Chris Stills  \nAs the son of Stephen Stills and French singer Veronique Sanson\, there’s no denying that singer/songwriter Chris Stills comes from musical roots. Stills grew up listening to the music of the late ‘60s along with some of the best lyricists of the 1990s\, the Jayhawks and Ryan Adams. With these influences\, Stills has become a bonafide troubadour in his own right\, delivering clear\, translucent folk and gritty rock and blues. \nSince Stills’ debut album 100 Year Thing (Atlantic Records\, 1998) and follow up album Chris Stills (2006)\, he has toured the world performing and recording with a variety of brilliant artists including Ryan Adams\, Government Mule\, Smashing Pumpkins\, Don Felder\, Richard Ashcroft\, Lucinda Williams\, Paul Weller and Ricky Lee Jones. \nChris’ songs are featured in numerous movies and television soundtracks including the hit Showtime series\, Shameless and the film\, American Hustle. You can also hear him sing the Bee Gees classic\, “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart” on the soundtrack for the Academy Award winning movie I\, Tonya. \n“[Still’s record] Don’t Be Afraid threads together intimate\, honest storytelling\, rock ‘n’ roll energy\, pop panache\, and classic grit” – The Daily Country \n

SUMMARY:The Revolutionists
DESCRIPTION:The Revolutionists\nLittle Fish Theatre \nBy Lauren Gunderson \nDirected by Margaret Schugt \nFour badass\, beautiful women lose their heads in this irreverent\, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges\, assassin Charlotte Corday\, former queen (and fan of ribbons)\, Marie Antoinette\, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out\, murder Marat\, ad try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy\, art and activism\, feminism and terrorism\, compatriots and chosen sisters\, and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story- or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in song and a scaffold. \n
