DESCRIPTION:The Annual San Pedro 4th of July Community Observance will be held Monday\, July 4\, 2022 at Angels Gate Park\, home of the Korean Friendship Bell. The Korean Bell\, one of San Pedro’s most enduring landmarks\, plays a key role in the ceremonial observance.  The ceremony will begin at 10:30 AM with a procession to the bell and the posting of the colors. \nTo conclude the ceremonial portion of the day\, the assembled guest speakers and dignitaries will lead the audience in reciting the names of the 13 original American states. As they read the names\, the representatives of the San Pedro and Korean Communities will strike a battering ram into the massive bell\, ringing once for each state. The Korean Bell is rung officially on four other occasions each year – Korean Independence Day (August 15th) Constitution Day (September 21st)\, New Year’s Eve and Korean American Day (January 13th).

Partnerships with local city organizations enabled us to offer the performances for free. The first season was tremendously successful – over 3\,000 people attended the nine performances at what was then an unused facility in the park. \nSince then\, SBTS has blossomed. We now present a repertory season that runs for 10 weeks – 4 weeks in San Pedro and 6 weeks in venues throughout LA\, Orange and Ventura Counties. \nOur Free Summer Festival is for everyone — regardless of age\, race\, economic stability or address and our audience is a melting pot of Americana. It is the only annual admission free theatrical event that serves the entire South Bay\, LA\, and parts of Orange and Ventura Counties and we are the only Shakespeare company on the West Coast that travels to over 20 communities with its programming.
