A public unveiling on Tuesday\, May 2nd\, from 4:30pm – 5:30pm at Angels Gate Cultural Center of this large-scale artwork marks the conclusion of an eight-week professional development workshop for San Pedro High School Students\, AGCC Teen Mural Club. \nTongva: Still Here is the culmination of the Center’s first Teen Mural Club\, which included eight weeks of professional training\, planning\, and painting by San Pedro High School Students under the mentorship of AQMNI Mural CO. The Teen Mural Club Students felt an immediate connection to the Tongva culture that still inhabits San Pedro. This connection sparked their interest and imagination\, and they were eager to learn more about the tribe’s rich local history and traditions. Teen Mural Club Students met with the local native community members\, who shared their lived experience and insights on Tongva and indigenous culture in order to plan their mural. \nTongva: Still Here is an impactful representation of the Tongva’s enduring legacy and the continued presence of their spirit in modern-day San Pedro at Angels Gate Cultural Center. Its many details and allusions to Tongva traditions and practices serve as powerful reminders of the tribe’s rich cultural heritage and their ongoing contribution to the community.\nAGCC invites the public to celebrate the power of education\, community\, and the enduring spirit of the Tongva culture as they present the completed mural for the first time to the public. DESCRIPTION:Meet the Grunion\n 	 	Spend a night sitting on Southern California’s sandy shore waiting for the “grunion run.” Grunion are small sardine-size fish of the silversides family\, which are among the few species of fish that actually come ashore to lay their eggs on sandy beaches. They are found from Southern California south to Baja California and arrive at night after the high tide around the new moon and full moon. Cabrillo Beach is one of the better places to observe the fish. \nUpcoming Grunion Runs \nMeet the Grunion\nWatch silvery fish come up on the beach to spawn! Learn about the interesting mating rituals and growth of this curious fish. The Aquarium opens at 8pm followed by guided observation at the beach. \nWarm clothing and a flashlight are recommended. April\, May and June are closed season\, grunion may not be taken.

Gaffey Street in San Pedro\, California. soundepdro is an annual season of experimental sound art events\, presented through November\, that investigates the way we perceive and experience sound. This year’s soundpedro2023 MINGLE on-site event includes: sculptures\, environments\, installations\, timed and ongoing performances\, interactions\, and presentations placed throughout the Angels Gate Cultural Center 7-acre campus. An Art Curated Event (ACE) entitled eARThLB\, will take place On-site to demonstrate how an ACE event can unfold\, over the course of the season\, through time and space. soundpedro2023 MINGLE continues the quest towards an immersive\, interactive and living experience\, mingling human and non-human inputs\, and explores broadening the auditory perception of sound as a meaningful phenomenon towards the physical reception of sound as experiential. \nVisitors should be prepared for potential areas of rough terrain\, sun and wind exposure\, and temperature changes (e.g. jackets\, umbrellas\, blankets\, practical footwear\, etc.). MINGLE MANGLE\, an exhibition of AGCC Studio Artists responding to the concept of sound intake\, will be on display at the AGCC Gallery in Building A. Curated by Marco Schindelmann of FLOOD\, the exhibition features works including various printmaking techniques\, sculpture\, video\, assemblage\, handmade instruments\, built ecosystems\, and sound media. MINGLE MANGLE will be on view in the AGCC galleries through June 17th\, with public visiting gallery hours Thursdays through Saturdays\, from 10am to 4pm.

The show is composed of two dynamic comedians\, Lou Greco and Carlo Russo\, who have gained international popularity with the comedic celebration of their Italian heritage. \nMany viewers were introduced to The Uncle Louie Variety Show on YouTube via the ornery\, yet loveable character “Uncle Louie” and the “Broken English Italian Word of the Day”.
