DESCRIPTION:Opening reception: September 11 from 1pm -5pm \nAngels Gate Cultural Center is pleased to present Landslide: slips in time\, place and identity; a grouping of solo and two-person exhibitions exploring how place can function as a porthole to the past and imagined future. The title references the 2011 landslide near White Point Nature preserve\, where site-specific works will be installed the weekend of the exhibition’s opening. Both a historic phenomenon and constant possibility in coastal San Pedro and Palos Verdes\, Landslide also references the 1975 Fleetwood Mac song\, in which Stevie Nicks sings “Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? / Can I handle the seasons of my life?” Together these references speak to the tension between the individual/collective and interior/exterior landscapes the artists in this exhibition – Michael Davis\, Alexandra Pacheco Garcia\, Vanessa Madrid and Suzanne Wright – address in their distinct styles

DESCRIPTION:Journey with CMA’s education staff on an adventure to Santa Rosa Island\, part of the Channel Islands National Park.  \nHailed by scientists as the “California Galapagos\,” trips to the coastal Channel Islands offer impressive glimpses into California’s rich human and natural history in addition to the amazing endemic animal and plant species found nowhere else on earth. \nOn the boat voyage to the island\, we will keep a weathered eye out for pelagic birds\, pinnipeds\, dolphins and whales. On the island\, participants will have the opportunity to follow along on a naturalist led hike (by CMA education staff and CINP volunteers) to observe the diverse coastal habitats\, amazing geologic formations\, unique animal and plant life\, human history and fantastic panoramic views that this exceptional island has to offer. Participants will board a boat in Ventura at 7:30am and return approximately at 6:30pm \nPLEASE NOTE: Island activities are very strenuous. Moderate physical agility is required of all passengers to climb a short ladder off of the boat to the pier. Once on the island\, the hikes will take place on loose sand and gravel along cliffs and canyons with various elevation changes. Please judge your ability and fitness accordingly. \nAdventure fee: $100 ($91 for FRIENDS members)\nReservations are required. The show and reception will be at The San Pedro Convention and Visitors Center.\nSPAA artist Teri Ledyard is now showing her paintings at The San Pedro Visitors and Convention Center. Everyone is invited to stop by. Light refreshments will be served.  \nArtist Bio:\nTeri Ledyard was born in 1963 in Cleveland\, Ohio. As a child she was influenced by her father who painted in oils and charcoal. She was an honor student in art while in high school\, until an accident where her hand went thru a window severing her wrist. To this day has left her with no feeling in her first three digits of her right hand. With hard work and perseverance she has overcome the loss of feeling and can create beautiful works of art in her true to life style. With the untimely death of her Father at a young age and a move to California shortly thereafter with her Mother and two siblings funding was not available for any formal education. She is self taught and influenced by great artists such as Alfonse Mucha and Olivia De Berardinas. Her love for painting the human form in acrylics has led her to being the portrait artist she is today which has evolved into her own style of photo realism. Teri’s first art showing was in 2006 in the Los Angeles Art District. Encouraged by her friend and fellow artist where she was well received among the diversity of other artists. She currently resides in downtown San Pedro near the many galleries and artist lofts where she has found greater inspiration to paint. You can find her at the Farmers Market socializing with fellow artist while she does one of her many numerous talents henna tattooing. Art Is….. “Creative use of the hands from the mind’s eye for all to see…. Using the right side of the brain is a limitless gift to be shared with all… It’s the spirit of one’s self reaching out for expression…what you perceive to be aesthetic.”

DESCRIPTION:CONTINUUM originally started as a rehearsal band in 1987 in East Los Angeles\, CA\, (USA) – musicians getting together to play some of their favorite music by Mahavishnu\, Bruford\, Monk\, RTF\, Shorter\, Weather Report\, Circle\,etc.\, for the sake of making music – rehearsing\, refining\, performing and documenting it as often as their individual schedules allowed. \nThey established their own SOUND and evolved into one of the more critically acclaimed contemporary improvisational music ensembles performing today – and while each member has an extensive and substantial body of work in a variety of genres\, utilizing (and transcending) their considerable individual skills the group has evolved “organically” over the last few years building a repertoire rich in influences and directions as a collaborative ensemble.
