No experience necessary\, all levels accepted. \nAuditions for The Nutcracker will take place Sunday\, August 26 at San Pedro Ballet School (1231 S. Pacific Avenue in San Pedro). Performers should wear clothes that they can move in. The audition schedule will take place as follows: \nAges 4-5\, 12:30-1:15 p.m.\nAges 6-8\, 1:20-2:05 p.m.\nAges 9-11\, 2:10-3:55 p.m.\nAges 12+\, 4:00-4:45 p.m.\nAdults\, 4:50-5:30 p.m. \nAll participants must enroll in classes at San Pedro Ballet School. A $210 non-refundable rehearsal and costume fee is required to participate; $195 rehearsal fee for second family members. Payment is due August 26 at the audition. \nThe 2018 production of The Nutcracker will take place at the historic Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro on Friday\, December 7 (7:00 p.m.)\, Saturday\, December 8 (2:00 and 7:00 p.m.) and Sunday\, December 9 (2:00 p.m.). DESCRIPTION:FESTIVAL OF SAIL 2018 – CANNON BATTLE\nSouthern California tall ships help spread the welcome among visiting sailors of LA Fleet Week 2018. \nLos Angles Maritime Institute will add to the general celebration of LA Fleet Week 2018 by mounting its own festival to honor the heritage of sail and sail exploration in Southern California\, August 31 through September 3\, 2018. \nActivities will center in the Port of Los Angeles’s downtown harbor cut where Irving Johnson and Exy Johnson\, the city’s official tall ships and tall ship ambassadors\, along with visiting vessels\, will remain stationed for the duration of the weekend\, offering free deck tours and sailor lore and regularly leaving the harbor to engage in mock cannon battles with each other near the Los Angeles Light. Tickets for the cannon battles are available at the venue and on the organizations web site. \nSurrounding the Downtown Harbor will be several nautically themed exhibits\, including a rope-making demonstration\, knot tying\, face painting\, a representation from the local Sea Scouts Ship\, a LAMI information station\, and a touch-museum of traditional maritime apparatus. \n“Seafaring is an overlooked but crucial part of Southern California’s history\, culture and development\,” said Bruce Heyman\, LAMI’s executive director. “And important because so many traditional ships like ours now serve an educational mission\, helping young people prepare for life. We are happy to join in this celebration of beautiful maritime craft and the men and women who sail them.” \nThe festival will also include revolution-era reenactors\, who will be on hand to impart a historic tone to the proceedings and answer questions about themselves and their era. \nAdmission to the festival area\, exhibits and ships’ decks will be free. Thanks to a generous donor\, several specially scheduled cannon battles will be free to veterans and their families. Public cannon battles will take place on two or more traditionally rigged tall ships and will be held at sea near Los Angeles Harbor Light also known as Angels Gate Light\, either just outside or just inside the gate\, with up to two battles scheduled per day. \nCANNON BATTLE\nJoin us for a Cannon Battle between tall ships at the Festival of Sail 2018!\nTIME\nThe sail will leave each day at 5pm and return at 7pm. Bring your binoculars\, camera\, sketch pad\, journal or just your curiosity!\n	While you’re here visit the Aquarium’s Library\, Aquatic Nursery\, Exploration Center\, and the Suzanne Lawrence-Miller Exhibit Hall to view our amazing animals and exhibits. Also\, plan to stop by CMA’s volunteer-run gift shop for a wide selection of gifts and books.\n	The Aquarium is located at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive in San Pedro and is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks with support from Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.  Open to the public on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon to 5 p.m.

SUMMARY:Fortnight Concert Series at Angels Gate
DESCRIPTION:The concert venue is a hundred year old access tunnel leading to the Leary Gun Battery. Holding our Fortnight Concerts Series midway through the tunnel avails us to a “uniquely intimate space” that works harmoniously with instruments and vocality. \nSeptember 7: Harold Greene will open the concert series\, creating music on the fly by playing the Chapman Stick and other instruments\, with the aid of a loop pedal and percussion implements. \nSeptember 21: Chuck Alvarez\, the San Pedro based guitarist/singer/songwriter with roots in blues-rock\, will perform with his acoustic trio. \nOctober 5: Fred Schreuders’ Trio holds down the fort with his jazz guitar and storytelling. \nOctober 19: Windy Barnes Farrell who travels the world sharing her gift\, will bring the Calvary home with her vocals ranging from Jazz to Pop\, to R&B and Gospel. \nPerformances: 7:30pm -9:30pm\nTickets purchased in advance: $30 per concert. $100 per person for full 4-concert series.\nFor more information\, or to purchase tickets\, contact Harold Greene at (310) 918-8566 or Frank Rodriguez at frankjrodriguez@mac.com.
