SUMMARY:4th of July Community Observance-Korean Bell
DESCRIPTION:47th Annual 4th of July Community Observance at the Korean Bell \nThe Annual San Pedro 4th of July Community Observance will be held on Thursday\, July 4\, 2024 at Angels Gate Park\, home of the Korean Friendship Bell. The Korean Bell\, one of San Pedro’s most enduring landmarks\, plays a key role in the ceremonial observance.  The ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM.   \nTo conclude the ceremonial portion of the day\, the assembled guest speakers and dignitaries will lead the audience in reciting the names of the 13 original American states. As they read the names\, the representatives of the San Pedro and Korean Communities will strike a battering ram into the massive bell\, ringing once for each state. The Korean Bell is rung officially on four other occasions each year – Korean Independence Day (August 15th) Constitution Day (September 21st)\, New Year’s Eve and Korean American Day (January 13th). \nAngels Gate Park is located at 3601 South Gaffey Street in San Pedro. The free event\, conducted every year since the Korean Bell’s installation in 1976 is sponsored by the Office of Councilmember Tim McOsker; the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks; the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce; and the Korean Friendship Bell Preservation Committee (KFBPC).

Free tours are available and adjacent to the ship will be an expansive “Villaggio Italia\,” an Italian village featuring cultural food\, music\, art and activities. \nThe historic sailing ship and training vessel of the Italian Navy\, the Amerigo Vespucci will be docked at Berth 46 in the Port’s Outer Harbor. Tour reservations are required and can be made at https://tourvespucci.it/en/events/come-aboard/. \nNext to the vessel\, the Villaggio Italia will feature a “Piazza Italia” square with pavilions featuring daily performances\, exhibitions\, food and film all meant to capture the soul and beauty of Italy. The village will be open daily from 9 a.m.-10 p.m.\, except for Wednesday\, July 3 (4-10 p.m.) and Monday\, July 8 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.). \nHighlights of the six-day event include:\n•	Frecce Tricolori\, the Italian Air Force’s National Aerobatic Team\, will perform air show above Amerigo Vespucci. DESCRIPTION:In its 74th year\, the Cabrillo Beach Boosters‘ John Olguin Fireworks Spectacular encountered an unexpected challenge and will not take place on July 4 this year\, as planned. In lieu of the traditional fireworks show\, the Cabrillo Beach Boosters\, a non-profit organization\, with the support of the Port of LA and other sponsors\, will host the John Olguin Drone Light Show on Saturday\, July 6 at 9:30 p.m. over Cabrillo Beach. This fireworks-alternative light show is people\, pet and environmentally friendly\, in honor of the late John Olguin’s legacy. For those who cannot attend the drone show or would just like to enhance their experience\, tune in to KCLA San Pedro 100.7 to listen to the live show.
