This event is presented by the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce and is a free event to the community. \n Grand Marshall: MARK WALLENGREN \nBorn in Utah\, Mark Wallengren and his family moved to Southern California when his mother was hired as a staff writer for NBC’s Wonderful World Of Disney. Growing up around the entertainment industry peaked his interest early on and inspired him to pursue his passion for radio. Mark is an accomplished KOST veteran where he now shares his wisdom and humor with millions of loyal listeners every afternoon. \nCommunity Grand Marshall:  DOMINIC COSTA \nDomenic Costa was born and raised in San Pedro.  He attended Mary Star Elementary and High School.  He started his teaching and coaching career at Washington Preparatory High School in Los Angeles.  After nine years\, he was asked to come coach and teach at San Pedro High School.  He was honored to coach with the legendary Mike Walsh.  During all of that time he and his wife\, Pam Costa\, had two phenomenal children\, Lauren and Jacob.  He needed to take some time off from coaching to watch his children grow and succeed.  After 21 years at San Pedro High School\, he has taught and mentored the students at Angel’s Gate High School from 2013 to the present. \nParade Route

SUMMARY:40th Annual Ringing of the Historic Korean Bell
DESCRIPTION:San Pedro’s 40th annual community Independence Day Celebration will be held Monday\, July 4th\, 2016 at the scenic Angels Gate Park\, home of the Korean Friendship Bell. The bell\, one of San Pedro’s most enduring landmarks\, will play a key role in this free ceremonial observance. \nAll are welcome for this free ceremony that will include an art exhibition by Master Kwon\, a procession led by percussion drummers\, remarks from local dignitaries and a special musical performance. The ceremony will conclude with a ringing of the Korean Bell 13 times\, once for each of the original American states.   Guest speakers include Congresswoman Janice Hahn and CA State Senator Isadore Hall.   \n\n10:00 AM:       Exhibition of Paintings by Master Kwon “Beauty of LA” at the Information Center\n10:30 AM:       Procession to the Bell\n10:45 AM:       Program\n12:00 PM:       Ringing of the Historic Korean Bell\n\nThe bell will be rung 13 times\, once for each of the original 13 states.  As the names are read representatives of the San Pedro and Korean Communities will strike a battering ram into the massive bell\, ringing once for each state. The Korean Bell is rung officially on only four other occasions each year — Korean Independence Day (August 15th) Constitution Day (September 21st)\, New Year’s Eve and Korean American Day (January 13th). \nAngels Gate Park is located at 3601 South Gaffey Street in San Pedro.
