Jeff has performed around the world in many of the top jazz festivals and venues with some of the biggest names in jazz such as Dave Douglas\, Brian Blade\, Joe Lovano and many more including being a member of jazz legend\, Lee Konitz’s quartet for over 12 years. Slated for release on his label Ridgeway Records on May 4\, 2018\, Outside My Window recalibrates his already expansive array of creative outlets by giving equal weight to his vocals. Working with a stellar international quartet\, Denson delivers an emotionally taut program weaving together striking interpretations of iconic songs and deeply felt originals. \nHis mid-career emergence as a supple and engaging singer isn’t coming from left field. On 2012’s critically hailed Secret World\, his first release under his own name\, Denson included vocals on two original pieces and has continued in that fashion on most of his solo releases. On last year’s Sgt. Pepper tribute May I Introduce to You with the collective San Francisco String Trio\, his vocal interpretation of “Fixing a Hole” was one of the album’s highlights. Denson’s music covers a lot of stylistic territory\, “but my voice is a thread running through each one\, whether I’m singing or not\,” he says. “I was a singer before I was a bass player. Going into the jazz world I put my voice away for a long time. But this is a logical step for me\, in that I’m using my voice more and more every year. This is the first time I’m singing throughout an entire album\, and these songs are a direct continuation of the music I’ve been writing and arranging.”

As of lately\, he has been writing music for trio. He is excited to bring this new group to Alva’s for an epic performance and celebration of his birthday. DESCRIPTION:Dave Anderson – drums\nBill Fulton – keys\nAdam Cohen – bass\nMike Nelson – alto sax\nJeff Jarvis – trumpet\nChristine Guter – vocals \nAs one of Los Angeles’ most experienced and widely sought after musicians\, David Anderson has appeared\, recorded\, and toured with many popular acts such as\, David Benoit\, Kirk Whalum\, Dionne Warwick\, The Rippingtons\, Larry Carlton\, Don Menza\, Tom Scott\, Hubert Laws\, Stanley Clarke\, Eddie Harris\, Eric Marienthal\, Chaka Khan\, David Pomeranz\, Clark Terry\, Bobby Shew\, Bill Watrous \, Peaches and Herb\, The Emotions\, Freddie Jackson\, just to name a few.  Television appearances include “Melrose Place\,” (FOX)\, “Jazz Central”(BET)\,  “Show Biz Today” (CNN\, VH1) and “Watching Ellie”(NBC).  David enjoys performing locally\, as well as travelling throughout the world.  He is also consistently active in the LA recording scene.  David’s commercial voice-over and drum recordings can be heard readily on ABC\, CBS\, Verizon and Showtime projects. \nChristine Helferich Guter is a jazz vocalist and studio singer in the Los Angeles area. She performs frequently in LA and Orange County\, and has worked with many legendary musicians including Joe Williams\, Bobby McFerrin\, Rosemary Clooney\, Diane Schuur\, Maynard Ferguson\, Mercer Ellington\, Lionel Hampton\, and Mel Torme. \nChristine works extensively in studio settings\, and has sung on dozens of Hollywood soundtracks including Star Wars Rogue One\, Sing!\, Storks\, Star Trek Beyond\, The Jungle Book\, Jurassic World\, Despicable Me 2\, Men in Black 3\, and Spiderman 3. She is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists)\, and is the lead singer in the nationally acclaimed vocal jazz ensemble\, Vocalogy. \nAlso an extraordinary educator\, Christine is active internationally as a lecturer\, adjudicator\, and clinician\, and has conducted numerous All-State Jazz and Honor Choirs. Christine is a member of the California Alliance for Jazz (CAJ)\, the Jazz Education Network (JEN)\, the California Music Educators Association (CMEA)\, and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). She is presently on the board of ACDA Western Division as Vocal Jazz R&R Chair. \nChristine is currently the Director of Vocal Jazz at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University Long Beach. She teaches private jazz voice lessons\, a jazz vocal styles courses\, has taught class jazz piano and jazz theory\, and directs the university’s award-winning vocal jazz ensemble\, Pacific Standard Time.

DESCRIPTION:“One Man Band” Rob Flax uses live looping of violin\, percussion\, and other instruments. \nRob Flax is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist\, composer\, and educator from Evanston\, IL with a playful heart and an open mind. He has performed locally\, nationally\, and internationally with groups of many different styles\, including opening for B.B. King and Tower of Power\, collaborations with dancers and filmmakers (including work on the soundtrack of James Franco’s film As I Lay Dying)\, and several original projects. Rob is a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory (M.M. 2012 – Contemporary Improvisation\, Music In Education)\, a dance accompanist at the Boston Conservatory\, and he currently teaches both group and private lessons in the greater Boston area.
