Yuri Kochiyama 9-30-21-4p

The Life and Times of
Civil Rights Activist Yuri Kochiyama

If you missed our May presentation celebrating Yuri Kochiyama’s centennial, San Pedro Heritage Museum President Angela Romero will be reprising it for the Los Angeles Public Library’s “LA Made” program. The presentation will be live streamed on September 30 and later archived on their YouTube page for your on-demand viewing pleasure. For more information on attending this virtual event, click here.

More About the Presentation:
This year we celebrate the centennial of Yuri Kochiyama, a woman who is remembered in very different ways depending on where you’re standing. In Harlem, NY, she is famous for her revolutionary activism, and in her hometown of San Pedro, CA, she is remembered as the favorite daughter with unlimited school spirit. This presentation reconciles the dichotomy of Kochiyama’s identities and shows how they were both rooted in her love and idealism.
