Jamie Baum, known for her award-winning Septet+ (of twenty years) that features her global-influenced, long-form compositions, formed a second, smaller band, Short Stories. Inspired by the short but well-crafted compositions of such jazz icons as Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk, along with more contemporary artists including the Beatles, Carla Bley, and Kenny Wheeler, Baum hits hard with her own versions, while invoking the excitement and drive of the modern “jazz standard.”
